Debt-review flag still showing on your credit report?
If a debt-review status or “flag” is still visible on your credit report, the right next step depends on your actual debt-review status and the records supporting it. Do not assume that paying one account, paying every account, or sending a generic removal request automatically resolves every debt-review entry.
1. Confirm what the report actually says
Get a current copy of your credit report and identify the bureau showing the entry. Record the exact status, date, account or reference details and any explanation supplied. Check your reports separately because information can differ between bureaus. Avoid sending an unredacted ID number or full credit report to an unfamiliar service.
2. Identify which debt-review situation applies
- You are still under debt review: Ask your registered debt counsellor to explain your current status and the lawful route that applies. Do not treat a generic online template as a substitute for advice about your particular case.
- You believe the status should have changed: Ask your debt counsellor which documents or notices were issued and whether the relevant bureau was notified. Keep copies and dates.
- You were never under debt review, or the entry appears inaccurate: You can challenge the accuracy of the information with the bureau holding it. Explain the specific error and attach evidence supporting your account.
- Your debt-review matter involved a court or tribunal order: Obtain and read the relevant order. A court-related situation may need a different process from an ordinary data correction.
3. Understand Form 19 before paying anyone
Form 19 is a clearance certificate under the National Credit Act. The official form is issued on the letterhead of the debt counsellor and certifies that the applicable requirements have been met. It is not a form that a general credit-help company can create or issue on your behalf. Ask your registered debt counsellor whether Form 19 applies to your circumstances and what evidence is required.
The National Credit Regulator publishes the official list of prescribed forms, including Form 19. Read the actual form and get case-specific guidance rather than relying on a social-media promise.
4. If the information is inaccurate, make a documented dispute
- Identify the exact line or status you challenge and explain why it is inaccurate.
- Attach relevant proof, such as a clearance certificate, court order, written confirmation or correspondence, where applicable.
- Submit the dispute through the credit bureau’s official channel and keep its reference number.
- Save the submission date, documents and written outcome. If unresolved, check the official escalation route and applicable deadlines.
Section 72 of the National Credit Act provides a mechanism to challenge the accuracy of credit information. The NCR’s published guidance explains how disputed-information complaints are handled. See the NCR disputed-credit-information guidelines and the TransUnion dispute process for official information. Follow the instructions of the bureau where your entry appears.
5. Be careful with guaranteed-removal claims
No honest educational service can promise that every debt-review flag will be removed. A record may be accurate, a required document may be missing, or the case may need a debt counsellor or court process rather than a simple bureau dispute. Ask any service what it will actually provide, what it costs and what it cannot do before paying.

Removal Inspector can explain general DIY checklists and document-preparation options. We do not access your bureau account, lodge the dispute for you, issue legal documents or guarantee an outcome.
Ask on WhatsApp View the debt-review guideBeen declined for credit while a debt-review flag appears?
Do not assume the flag is the only reason for a lender's decision. Confirm your current debt-review status, check the exact information on your report and ask your registered debt counsellor which clearance steps or documents apply to your circumstances. Correcting a record does not guarantee loan approval.
