Paid-up account still on your credit report?

If you have settled an account but it still appears as arrears or adverse information, do not assume the entry is automatically wrong—or that it will disappear immediately. Check what is being reported, gather proof and ask the relevant credit bureau how to dispute information you believe is inaccurate.

Important: Removal Inspector provides educational information and DIY templates. We are not a law firm or debt counsellor, we do not lodge disputes for you, and we cannot guarantee that a bureau will change a record.

1. Check exactly what the report says

Read the entry carefully. Note the account provider, account reference (mask sensitive details when sharing), status, balance, dates and which bureau supplied the information. A paid account, a historical payment profile and a current outstanding balance are not necessarily the same thing.

2. Gather documents before you dispute

Keep copies and record when you sent each document. Share only the personal information needed for the dispute and use the bureau’s official submission channel.

3. Ask for the specific information to be checked

Identify the exact entry you believe is inaccurate and explain why. For example, you may be asking whether a balance was updated after settlement or whether a status is still being reported correctly. Attach relevant evidence and request a reference number for the dispute.

Use the bureau’s current instructions to submit your query. If the account provider’s records are wrong, you may also need to contact that provider. Keep responses in writing and follow the applicable process and timelines described by the bureau or regulator.

4. Follow up and keep a record

Save the submission confirmation, dispute reference, supporting documents and every reply. If the matter remains unresolved, review the bureau’s escalation process and the relevant official guidance before taking the next step. Court judgements, debt review and prescription questions can require different evidence or professional advice.

What if the account is paid but the listing remains?

Start by confirming whether the entry is inaccurate, incomplete or simply reflects historical information. A payment does not automatically mean every historical entry must be erased. The appropriate outcome depends on the type of information, its accuracy, the applicable rules and the evidence available.

Paid the account but still being declined for credit?

A paid-up account showing on a report does not by itself prove that the information is wrong or that a lender must approve a new application. Check the reported balance, status and dates, keep settlement evidence, and dispute only the specific information you believe is inaccurate. Ask the relevant bureau or provider for a reference number and retain the response.

Removal Inspector does not offer loans or guarantee approval. Read what to check before your next credit application.

Frequently asked questions

Will a paid-up account be removed automatically?

Not necessarily. The status may need to be updated, but historical information can be treated differently from an incorrect current balance. Check the entry and the applicable bureau process.

Can Removal Inspector remove it for me?

No. Removal Inspector provides educational guidance and DIY templates only. We do not contact bureaus on your behalf and cannot guarantee an outcome.

Should I send my full ID number over WhatsApp?

Avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information through informal channels. Follow the bureau’s identity-verification instructions and mask personal details when possible.
