Paid does not always mean every historical entry disappears

A settled balance, historical payment profile and adverse-information entry are not necessarily the same thing. First establish what the report actually says and whether the current balance, status, dates or other details are incorrect. Ask the provider for written confirmation where needed.

Evidence to gather

Collect proof of payment, a settlement or paid-up letter if available, relevant statements, a copy of the credit-report entry and any case numbers from earlier correspondence. Keep a simple timeline showing when you paid, when the report was checked and when you contacted the provider or bureau.

What the kit covers

The advertised pathway includes an arrears action flow, paid-up evidence checklist, bureau-update templates and information about checking relevant retention periods. Use the templates to explain the specific discrepancy and request an investigation. Follow the bureau's official submission instructions and retain copies of everything sent.

Thinking about applying for credit while an adverse entry remains?

Before applying again, check the information recorded and gather any documents that support a correction request. A dispute is appropriate when you have a specific reason to question the accuracy or status of an entry; it is not a method for deleting accurate information simply because it affects a credit application. A correction request does not guarantee lender approval.

Removal Inspector provides educational DIY resources, not loans or credit approval. See our guide for people declined for credit.

If the information is accurate

A paid account may still have a historical payment profile or other information that can lawfully remain for a period. The correct next step depends on the exact entry and applicable rules. Do not assume every adverse entry should be deleted immediately after payment.

Frequently asked questions

I paid the account—why is it still showing?

The report may show a historical payment profile or an update may still be pending. Compare the precise status and balance with your provider's records, then ask the provider or bureau about any discrepancy.

Can Removal Inspector update my credit bureau file?

No. We do not access or amend bureau records or lodge disputes for customers.

What if the balance is still wrong?

Gather proof and submit a specific dispute through the bureau's official process, asking it to investigate the balance or status you believe is inaccurate.
